Fuel Injector Replacement Cost by Vehicle

Costs vary wildly by vehicle. A Honda Civic runs $450 to $550 for a full set while a Chevy Silverado runs $1,200 to $2,000. This table covers the 20 most popular US vehicles with their most common engine configuration for 2020 to 2026 model years.

Why a BMW Costs 2-3x More Than a Honda

European luxury vehicles cost more for fuel injector replacement for several reasons that compound on each other. First, most luxury brands use direct injection exclusively, which means higher-precision parts that cost $350 to $600 per injector compared to $50 to $100 for a standard port injector.

Second, labor access is more difficult. BMW and Audi engines are packed tightly under the hood with turbocharger plumbing, plastic covers, and complex intake manifolds that must be removed. A job that takes 1 to 2 hours on a Honda Civic takes 3 to 4 hours on a BMW 3 Series.

Third, dealer labor rates for European brands run $150 to $250 per hour compared to $100 to $150 at a domestic or Japanese brand dealer. Independent shops that specialise in European vehicles are often the best balance of expertise and value, typically charging $100 to $160 per hour.

Trucks and SUVs: V8 Engines and Accessibility Challenges

Full-size trucks like the Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado have 6 to 8 injectors instead of 4, which means higher parts costs even at the same per-injector price. The Ford F-150 with its 3.5L EcoBoost V6 uses direct injection, putting it in the $1,100 to $1,800 range for a full set replacement.

The Chevy Silverado with its 5.3L V8 uses direct injection across 8 cylinders. A full set replacement runs $1,200 to $2,000. The Ram 1500 with its 5.7L Hemi is an exception because it uses port injection, making it less expensive at $800 to $1,200 for the full set despite having 16 injectors (two per cylinder in the MDS system).

For any truck or large SUV, always get an itemised quote showing per-injector parts cost and total labor hours. The labor estimate should be 2 to 4 hours for most V8 engines.

Diesel Vehicles

Diesel fuel injector replacement is a separate, higher-cost category. Common rail diesel injectors operate at 30,000+ PSI and cost $400 to $800+ per injector. A full set replacement on a Ford Power Stroke, Duramax, or Cummins diesel truck runs $2,000 to $4,000 or more.
